Structural Knock-Through & Chimney Alterations – Stockport
Overview

The works included the removal of a load-bearing wall to create an open-plan kitchen-dining space and the adaptation of an original chimney breast to accommodate a freestanding cooker. 1. Structural Knock-Through Works

Installation of RSJ steel beams to safely redistribute structural loads
Use of temporary propping to support the upper floor during demolition
Clean demolition practices to minimise disruption and maintain live occupancy

2. Chimney Breast Alteration for Cooker Installation
To create a focal point in the new kitchen space, WHL Projects opened up the chimney breast to allow for the installation of a range-style cooker:
A new steel lintel was installed to support the masonry above the opening
The brickwork was carefully retained and made good to provide a characterful, exposed finish
Services were coordinated to accommodate the cooker’s installation seamlessly
