SERVICE DETAILS

Tanking & Waterproofing Works

WHL Projects delivers structural waterproofing, tanking and damp-proofing systems for basements, retaining walls, lift pits, podium decks and other below- or above-ground structures. We combine technical understanding with practical site experience to design and install solutions that meet both British Standards and manufacturer warranties for long-term performance.

Our capabilities

We provide full design-and-install packages for:

  • Type A (barrier) protection – cementitious, bituminous and liquid-applied membranes for new or existing structures.
  • Type B (integral) protection – waterproof concrete and joint systems integrated into reinforced-concrete pours.
  • Type C (drained-cavity) protection – internal cavity-drain membranes, perimeter channels, sumps and pumps with maintainable access.

Each system is chosen according to the structure’s use, ground conditions and water-table level, in accordance with BS 8102:2022 – Protection of Below-Ground Structures Against Water Ingress. Our teams are trained by major manufacturers such as Sika, Newton, Delta Membranes and Triton, and we can secure manufacturer design approval and warranties where required.

Design coordination

Early coordination is critical. We engage with engineers and designers to verify structural detailing, joint locations, service penetrations and concrete finishes. Where retrofit tanking is required, WHL Projects completes full substrate preparation, crack injection and surface reinstatement before applying the new system.

Our sister company, WHL Surveying & Engineering, regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), provides measured surveys, concrete testing and structural analysis to ensure compatibility between structure and waterproofing method.

Installation control

  • Surface preparation – mechanical cleaning or shot-blasting to remove laitance and contamination.
  • Priming and application – manufacturer-approved primers, trowel or spray-applied coatings, membrane overlaps and terminations checked at every stage.
  • Joint detailing – hydrophilic strips, waterstops and sealing compounds installed to prevent water tracking.
  • Drainage and protection – cavity-drain channels, geotextile protection and protection boards prior to backfill.

Health, safety & environmental control

Waterproofing often takes place in confined or below-ground environments. WHL Projects implements detailed risk assessments and rescue plans, forced-air ventilation, gas monitoring and confined-space permits. We manage slurry and wash-water disposal under our environmental policy and ensure safe handling of cementitious and solvent-based materials.

Technical assurance & accreditations

WHL Projects operates ISO-aligned quality and environmental systems and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Our technical documentation follows the recommendations of BS 8102, BS 8485 and relevant Building Regulations Parts A and C. Structural input and verification are provided through our RICS/IStructE-regulated sister company to guarantee technical integrity and compliance.
