Working in live school environments
Every education project requires careful planning to protect pupils, staff and visitors. WHL Projects establishes secure working zones, controlled access routes and clear segregation between construction and school activities.
We schedule disruptive works outside term time or during evenings and weekends wherever possible.
Noise, dust and vibration controls are implemented from the outset, and our site teams are fully DBS-checked and trained for safeguarding awareness. All materials, scaffolding and equipment are securely locked down daily, maintaining a clean and safe environment at all times.
Technical and compliance standards
All works are carried out in accordance with Building Bulletin (BB) 100 for fire safety, BB 93 for acoustic design, and BB 101 for ventilation. Roofing and envelope systems are installed to BS 6229, BS 5250, and Approved Document L for thermal efficiency.
We specify low-maintenance materials and finishes suited to the heavy use of educational buildings. Lighting levels, colour contrast and accessibility are considered at design stage to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010.
Health, safety and environmental performance
Safety underpins every education project we deliver. Our Construction Phase Plans are reviewed with the client and site team before mobilisation, detailing safeguarding procedures, emergency routes and communication protocols.
We operate under ISO-aligned quality, safety and environmental systems and are a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
All site managers hold SMSTS certification, and every operative holds an enhanced DBS check. We also monitor air quality, waste management and energy usage on long-duration projects to align with school sustainability goals.
Technical assurance and professional oversight
