WHL PROJECTS - PUBLIC SECTOR

Planned Maintenance

Keeping public buildings operational, compliant, and cost-effective through proactive maintenance

SERVICE DETAILS

Planned Maintenance

WHL Projects delivers planned and cyclical maintenance programmes across schools, hospitals, offices, and community buildings throughout the UK. We help estates teams and facilities managers extend the life of their assets, reduce reactive costs, and maintain compliance with safety and operational standards.

What we do

We provide long-term and framework-based maintenance services for:

  • Roof and envelope inspections, repairs, and renewals
  • Facade, cladding, and window maintenance
  • Fire-stopping, fire-door and compartmentation upgrades
  • Mechanical and electrical servicing and plant replacement
  • Drainage and external works maintenance
  • Painting, decorating, and interior fabric care
  • Structural and safety repairs, including lintel and masonry works

We act as principal contractor or delivery partner under framework agreements, planned-preventative-maintenance (PPM) contracts, or multi-site annual programmes. Every plan is tailored to the building type, occupancy, and risk profile.

Our approach

Planned maintenance only works when it’s organised and predictable. We start by reviewing each asset’s condition, identifying short-term and long-term priorities, and building a schedule that aligns with the client’s budgets and statutory obligations.

All works are coordinated around operational hours — for example, school maintenance during holidays, hospital roofing out of hours, or civic-office refurbishments phased to maintain public access. Communication is continuous: clients receive updates, photographs, and completion records throughout delivery.

Safety and live-environment working

We understand the unique challenges of working in occupied public buildings. Our teams isolate work areas, provide clear signage, and use dust-suppression and noise-control measures to keep operations safe and comfortable. All site operatives are vetted, DBS-checked where required, and trained for live-environment awareness.

Temporary protection, clear access routes, and daily coordination meetings ensure we remain invisible to building users — even when working in busy facilities.

Quality and assurance

Every maintenance programme is delivered by qualified trades and specialist subcontractors who are approved for their technical competence. Materials and systems are selected for durability and manufacturer warranty coverage. We document all work with photographic evidence and provide detailed completion reports for client records.

Our internal engineering arm, WHL Surveying & Engineering, regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), supports our maintenance division with surveys, defect diagnostics, and technical advice.

Sustainability and efficiency

We plan with the long view in mind — specifying energy-efficient systems, recyclable materials, and coatings or membranes that reduce future maintenance demand. Waste is segregated and recycled wherever possible, and we always look for opportunities to reduce energy use, travel, and emissions across our supply chain.
