Case Study
Emergency Replacement Ceiling Job at a School in Manchester
Project Overview:
WHL Projects responded swiftly to an urgent call for the replacement of a deteriorated lath and plaster ceiling at a school in Manchester. The original ceiling had collapsed due to water ingress and leaks, rendering two classrooms unusable and impacting children's education. With the safety and education of the students in mind, WHL Projects mobilised immediately, planning and arranging for the works to be completed over the Easter holidays to minimise disruption and ensure the classrooms were ready for the students' return.
Project Details:
Emergency Response: WHL Projects sprang into action following the collapse of the lath and plaster ceiling, prioritising the safety of the school's occupants and the continuity of education. Despite the time constraints, WHL Projects efficiently coordinated resources and personnel to address the issue promptly.
Ceiling Removal: Over 100sqm of deteriorated lath and plaster ceilings, dating back to the building's original construction in 1890, were carefully emoved. Due to the ceilings' height of 5.2m, scaffolding was erected to facilitate safe access for the removal process.
Installation of New Fireboarded Ceilings: New fireboarded ceilings were installed to meet modern safety standards. All electrical components were isolated and reinstated, ensuring compliance with regulations. Additionally, new ceilings were meticulously skimmed to provide a smooth and uniform finish.
Insulation and Disposal: The new ceilings were insulated at ceiling level with wool insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort within the classrooms. All original lath and plaster debris were disposed of off-site in an environmentally responsible manner.
External Roof Patch Repairs: External patch repairs were undertaken on the roof covering to address the source of the water ingress and prevent further leaks, safeguarding the integrity of the building and the newly installed ceilings.
Conclusion:
Through efficient planning, swift action, and meticulous execution, WHL Projects successfully completed the emergency replacement of the ceiling at the school in Manchester within the two-week timeframe. The timely completion of the project ensured that the classrooms were ready for the students' return after the Easter holidays, minimising disruption to their education. WHL Projects' commitment to safety, quality, and responsiveness exemplifies their dedication to delivering exceptional service, even in challenging circumstances. The newly installed ceilings not only provide a safe and comfortable learning environment but also contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the historic school building.
